My oldest daughter took an online college class this summer before she goes away to school in the Fall. Basically it just involved terminology, knowing a few painters, but mostly identifying paintings by title and artist. I told her not to bother showing any of the paintings to her grandfather. Sadly, his idea of art is any TV show featuring Gerald McRaney. I’ve always liked the thing that blurred the line between art and pop culture. I suppose that’s why I’ve always been a fan of The Simpsons. It has its moments where it is just a sitcom and it has moments where the writing is so elevated that not everybody gets the joke (or the commentary) being presented. That being said, I like some of the stuff Gerald McRaney has done over the years as well.
