One of the ways I taught my kids some geography was to play games with interstate highways. If they could tell me what cities a highway started and ended in they could earn giant order of fries the next time we stopped or they could have a pack of gum if they could tell me the states an interstate ran through. Now that they’re older and their interests have changed, we’ve had to change the game. for my oldest, I make her tell me the source plant for different herbs or spices to keep her out of her phone on trips. For my boy, he likes extremes so we cover what places in America get the most or least lightning strikes or the most or least seismic activity. I like that much better than riding in silence while everyone else has their head down, looking at their phones, and missing the world around them. For 15 points at the end of Round 2 (before the Double Down Dare) write down your favorite car trip game as a kid or a parent, including rules and scoring, and maybe you’ll be inspired to share it or teach it to someone else.
